Proximity Markers, Miniflags, Tournament Tee Markers and Trophies!

Brushed Aluminum cards save money and look great!

Sorry, it’s been a couple weeks since my last post. As everyone gears up for the start of the golf season (at least up North!), we’ve been swamped. Here are a few pictures of some of the things we’ve been working on.

Here are several different proximity markers at several different price points. The brushed aluminum cards look great and save you money. The custom raised logos are a great upgrade. The one for Roaring Forks is one of my favorites we’ve done yet.

Then we’ve had a couple sets of miniflags.  One is for a corporate sponsorship for a charity event.  What a great way to advertise for your sponsors!

We’ve also had a couple sets of custom tournament-specific tee markers.  Both Framingham CC and San Luis Obispo asked for tee markers to help make their event memorable.

Finally, I know I posted some photos of the sample trophy we built for the River Club, but the finished items were completed yesterday.  Jason added some bark texture to the bases, that – along with the handpainting- make these truly unique gifts.

Tee Markers, Member-Guest Awards & Gifts, and Trump National!

February 21, 2012 by Joy Ball

New tee markers that were just sent to Arrowhead.

What’s in the shop this week? Well, other than some more lousy snow outside – here’s some of the things we’ve been working on lately.

First up are a set of tee markers for Arrowhead Golf Club out of Colorado. These are cut out of 3/16″ thick steel. They had us do them in 4 custom colors, here are a couple of them that I managed to grab a picture of before they were all boxed up.

New tee markers that were just sent to Arrowhead.

Next, we’ve had several requests for tournament awards and trophies that “are something we’ve never seen before”.  We’ve been experimenting with some new techniques and have paired up with a talented local artist to produce some awards and trophies that are truly unique.  These are just samples at this point, but they turned out beautifully – and at a great price point for something of this quality!

This course asked us to come up with both a gift that each participant in their Member-Guest could recieve and a trophy for the event winners.  They wanted something with a “Native American Hatchet”.  Each piece is cut out of steel and hand painted.

A great new idea for member guest gifts.

The trophy is based on a piece of 8″ pipe, and probably weights 15-20lbs.  It’s also hand crafted and painted.  His incredible painting gives it a 3D look that is stunning.

The River Club asked us to create something unique for their member guest trophies. More trophy details.

Some of Jason's amazing detail work. A close-up of the detail work on this member guest trophy.

Here’s another sample for a desert course.  This simple cactus will make an amazing centerpiece for a trophy.  All of the texture is done with just weld splatter and then hand painted.

Let us know if we can start working on something original and unique for your 2012 Member-Guest!

Finally here are a pair of boxes that were purchased by the guys at Trump National.  The two boxes serve two different functions.  First is what we call at ‘scorecard box’.  This gets mounted on a pole (included) and is usually stationed near the first tee.  It contains scorecards, pencils, tees, divot repair tools, etc.  The second box is what we call a ‘tournament box’.  This one is usually used by tournament organizers to carry the things they need from event to event and helps keep everything they need in one handy location.  The tournament box is made of 1/8″ aluminum and is a great looking box that is more durable than anything else on the market.  Both boxes can be completely customized to your individual needs and requirements.

Tournament Awards and On-course signage…

February 7, 2012 by Joy Ball

A Waterproof menu case for the on-course snack bar.

Here are a few of the things we have in the shop this week.

First up is an award we did for Sterling Bank. This is the second year that they’ve had us build award plaques and trophies for their customer appreciation program.
An award plaque for Sterling Bank.

Then we did a another bunch of signage for La Quinta Resort in Palm Springs.   This time it was for their concession stand/snack bar area.  Signs include directional signs to the stand, waterproof menu cases (one that hangs on the wall, and one that mounts on a pole which they’ll have on the tee box of the 9th hole), and a large sign for the stand itself.

More golf course signage. A detail view of the La Quinta logo.

We did a set of proximity markers and matching Closest to the Pin signs for Wingpoint on the Washington coast.

The Meadow Club ordered another set of trophies for this years Meadowlark Invitational Golf Tournament.  This is definitely one of my favorite trophies that we’ve done.

This is the second year we've done these trophies. Trophy for the Meadow Clubs Meadowlark Invitational Golf Tournament.

We’re working on some tournament cases and scorecard boxes for Trump National.  Will have some final pictures of them next week.

New Proximity Marker Design!

Berkeley Hall Proximity Marker

The best just keeps getting better! We’ve listened to everyone’s suggestions and made some tweaks to our Proximity Marker design…

It’s the same durable, steel holster with the pen and tape measure holders that we had before. That part hasn’t changed. What is new is the card. On the old version of the marker, the card and the plexiglass were seperate pieces. The card slid in behind the plexiglass – you wrote on the card, and the plexiglass protected the card from weather and sprinklers.

On the new version of the card, the plexiglass and the card are a single unit. Now you write directly on the plexiglass instead of the card. There are several benefits to this.

  • This gives us several new options for writing instruments.  The old card was limited to wet erase markers, which are not that common.  By writing on the plexiglass, you can now use wet erase, dry erase, grease pencil, even a Sharpie.
  • Dry erase markers, although they easily wipe up with a touch, are surprisingly durable in the wet.  They don’t run in the rain or if they get hit by sprinklers.
  • A Sharpie can be used.  To remove Sharpie pens, we suggest using Goof Off: Heavy Duty Spot Remover & Degreaser or Krud Kutter Graffiti Remover that come in wipes or squirt bottles (do not use the aerosol cans). These are readily available at stores such as Home Depot and Lowes. Do not use Xylene.
  • If in the event, the plexiglass does eventually become dirty or scratched, you can now cheaply and easily replace the plexiglass instead of having to replace your logo’ed aluminum card.
  • Because we’re no longer writing on the card, we can now make it any color – no more white cards only!

This is our ‘standard’ option that is used for Longest/Straightest Drive Contests.  This is your custom logo on the card and both the card and the holster can be powder coated any color.  This is a great addition to any tournament kit, and an exceptional value at $75.00/each!

Basic Proximity 4 - $65.00 and up

5.  We can take your design to the next level.  Special requests like additional text cut into the card, multi-layer logos, additional color backplates, etc. can all be designed and accommodated.  Contact us for pricing on these truly custom pieces.

Don’t forget that A-frame KP signs make a great pair with your proximity markers, and as we said in our last post, we’ve also designed new carrying and storage options for both the tee announcement signs and the proxies.

Happy New Year!

December 30, 2011 by Joy Ball

A carrying case to store and transport custom KP signs.

A little bit of a quiet week this week while everyone relaxes for the holidays. Which is good because we have a ton of new stuff lined up starting in January – it’s going to be a very busy first quarter.

Here are a couple signs we did for PGA West. Their custom signage, which features their 4 color logo looks great around the golf course. We also did some logos which will hang on either the starter’s podium or at the restaurant in the clubhouse.

Here are a couple bag drop and valet signs for Silver Rock Resort. The metallic silver finish looks amazing.

Finally, Berkeley Hall asked us to design a couple methods for storage and easy transportation of their new Proximity Markers and KP Tee signs. The KP sign case can easily be carried with you out onto the golf course as you’re setting up for your tournament. The Proximity Marker storage unit will keep your closest to the pin signs safe and secure between events!

Merry Christmas from RHI!

December 23, 2011 by Joy Ball

Here's a custom trophy we built for a tournament at Saratoga National.

Just wanted to take a minute and thank everyone for a great year. Our business has grown amazingly, and it’s our customers who keep suggesting new products and ideas that keep this job exciting and fun. God bless you and your’s this holiday season, and have a happy and successful New Year.

As we head out for the holiday weekend, I snapped a couple pictures of some of the things we’re working on…

Here are a couple of different on-course fixtures we’re working on for PGA West. There is a sand and seed box which sits on a stand. The entire top opens up to make it easy for the grounds crew to refill the box with seed mix, and then the smaller hatch is used by the guests to scoop and fill their bottles. The shoe cleaner is something specific that they requested. The plan is that the guest can blow off their shoes using compressed air and the debris will fall through the grate into a box which can be easily emptied. A couple of fun pieces, we always enjoy designing something new from scratch.
Lots of on-course fixtures being built for PGA West...A shoe cleaning station...

Here’s a great little custom trophy we did for a golf tournament at Saratoga National. We actually went down to the local farm and feed store and bought real horseshoes to incorporate into the design.

Here are a couple pictures of a scorecard box that gets mounted to a pole on the way to the first tee. It holds scorecards, tees, ball markers, divot tools, etc. and can be customized to accommodate any size scorecard and/or number of amenities. This one is for the Madison Club in Palm Springs. I dig their spyglass logo…

Finally here are some pieces in progress for our first “international” order! A golf course in the Netherlands called simply “The Dutch” asked for proximity markers and matching signs that can go on the tees during tournaments. The sign alerts the guest that there is a contest on that hole, and then the proximity markers are used to mark and record the current leader. These ones will have an orange backplate behind the logo yet, and should turn out really cool.

Here’s what’s going on around the shop this week…

Berkeley Hall KP Sign

Just wanted to show a few of the things we have working in the shop right now.

First up, we’re remaking an order for Berkeley Hall. UPS suffered a train derailment during the one batch of bad weather we’ve had so far this year, and their entire shipment was destroyed! We got everything put back together, and it made it nice that I could snap a couple pictures, because they had some pretty good stuff.

They did some tournament signs – several that said “Closest to the Pin” and some that just said “Special Event”. These will sit on the tee box, and alert tourney participants that there is something special going on that hole.

Here’s a picture of their proximity marker which works hand and hand with the signs. They can use the proximity marker to show the position, and record the name of, the current closest ball.

Here’s a picture of a couple large sand and seed boxes that we are building for PGA West. These are on their way over for powdercoating, we’ll get an after pic when they come back. The entire top lid is hinged and opens up to make it easy for the grounds crew to fill the box, but then there is a smaller lid for easy guest access.

Here are some cart path directional signs we are doing for Southern Dunes.

Here’s a brushed aluminum hole in one trophy that we did for a member at Hayden. It’s a great way to display the lucky ball, and record the pertinent information about the event. Congratulations, Jonah Anderson, on your hole in one!
